I have 1 spare tranny. The transmission in the car requires that i use 93 FWD only half shafts, the FWD transmission made in 94 (many sold in 95) has the splines for the same half shaft that goes into a wrx. knuckles use the same splines too) actually i think almost all of the subaru half shafts past 95 have the same splines (both at the knuckle and where they mount to the tranny)
my 94 tranny requires a different clutch kit, i haven't bought the parts yet.
Napa will sell you a half shaft for $50 with a core charge. you can get a used half shaft for 20, 25$ on a 1/2 off pick and pull day. so that's like 75$ , and in some cases you get a brand new half shaft (last one i got from napa was BRAND New, but boxed as refurb)
Rallynotes uses a phantom grip LSD. they seem to have great success. not sure what Beavis , or the Masano father and son team was using. Max masano mentioned that after he added a LSD that getting on the gas mid corner helped the car claw through the corner. where as i more get the feeling of throttle understeer.
Welded is possible , cheap, i have the needed parts, but driving transits would be horrible. (200 miles at the last rally, and my crew had to use the car to buy some last minute parts)
some type of tunable Plates would rock, although I want to keep the maintenance down .
I'm heavily leaning towards a Helical , but i'm not going to jump into any purchases any time soon.
How quickly are coil overs going to wear out (ie struts need rebuilding) doing some high way driving. say like 200 miles a week, @ speed limit, gentle corners (no tire chirping)
Or if i plan to do 5 rallies a year, would 6,000 comuting miles have a noticible impact on the coil overs performance?
