It helps pressurize the fender well especially if you seal around the opening into the fender. I normally have mine on even with my in fender CAI. I think when I did the silencer delete rather than removing it, I left the two fittings for the filter box and snorkus to support it and cut the rest off flat to the inside of the fender.
