Lighter is better... and smaller diameter mean less rotational enertia, which helps acceleration... but if your tire is rolling over onto the sidewalls, you're giving up traction and that's worse than any gains from a smaller rim.

There's also a gearing effect from a small over-all diameter... so potentially a light 15" rim, with a 30 series tire would be really fast, but that's so small you have to worry about bottoming out the car.. lol!

I think light 17" rims are probably the optimal rims for autocrossing a WRX. Esp. wide 17" rims... like a 17"x8" with 245's, but there's fitment issues with tires that wide...
