Yeah, studded tires are pretty impracticle IMO. Unless you drive in snow and ice everyday, a set of studless snows seem to work pretty well. I got mine becaise I drive over Donner a few times each winter for the holidays (my parents live in the Bay, my sister lives in Sacramento). So I wanted some decent snow tires to avoid chains over the pass. 'Cept once I get into CA, driving another 200 miles on studs seemed stupid.
