Some day Sam, you will learn. Weve told you that its all in how the car is kept. DSMs get a bad rap because they get beat on alot. What would you expect from a cheap, turbo four cylinder?

Exactly. I've had two DSM's and no real BIG problems that were car related. The only time my dsm (gst) EVER broke down was the timing belt skipped a couple teeth because one of the pullies was loose and tore through the timing belt cover, causing the belts to hit. I've heard this was one of the "problems" with DSMs but who knows, maybe when I got my timing belts change they forgot to torque that certain pulley to spec? Also my friends 1g has only broken down due to user error and negligence. Stuff that could happen to ANY car if not taken care of properly. The problem is that these cars are cheap, and people either buy them to abuse them or kids buy them and abuse them, expecting them to be rock solid with no maintenance.

Then there's the crank walk issue, but that's really just an excuse for a stroker motor...
