On my old suspension I had progressive-rate H&R springs, but now that I converted the car to coil-overs I have linear-rates in it. As long as you don't go with an extremely stiff spring rate the coil-overs should ride fine, if not better due to the typically smaller & lighter springs. I don't really agree that you can't predict the handling of a car with progressive rate springs, because I auto-xed my car with P-rates for a couple of years and I always knew exactly what it was going to do. However, he's right that almost all racers use linear-rates... P-rates are a good compromise for the street but if you're looking for the extra bit of speed in auto-x, linear rates are better just because of the quicker chassis response they provide.
