My RS EJ251, with forged crank, cast rods and pistons, and low-end cams has a redline of only 6250.
Apparently the internals and stock valvetrain are perfectly good for 72-7400, but the cams make it pointless. As a stock motor, I think the strategy is perfectly fine.
