Preliminary tests using small pieces of string tied to the mesh in the vent indicate that air flows *into* the "vent" at speeds greater than about 30-40mph, but I want to do some more fiddling before I'm sure. The black mesh is too hot to touch after hard driving so some heat is escaping out of there, or it could just be from radiation from the engine. And sitting at idle you can just see the heat pouring out of it creating a mirage effect.
The reverse scoops on the market are raised at the front which tends to create a vacuum behind it. I wanted something flat. I may fab one up that has more of a lip at the front to see how that looks and works.
No matter what, I still like it better than a non-functional scoop, especially that microwave oven-sized STI scoop.
