Make it a large pool of candidates for each possible "demographic", or whatever you want to call it, with the winner being selected randomly from among that particular selected pool, and I'd be all for that. That's the only method that could eliminate business & special interest lobbying, simply because they couldn't know who would win by polling beforehand.
