The V712 wasn't M+S, the V711 was supposed to be the M+S variant of the same tread design but with a lower temperature compound. They still sucked in the snow, so they dropped the M+S rating a few years ago.
And I've driven in a snow storm with the 712's. It sucked, but I made it home. I would never do it again, and I only did it cause I got caught in a snow storm.
