However...
When was the last time a show car got a $1M bonus for winning a car show? In
1985 Bill Elliot won the Winston Million (Jeff Gordon also won it in 1997...), before and since then huge purses are up for grabs worldwide for autoracing events.
Name 10 people famous for building show cars. Andretti, Earnhardt, Shumacher, McCrae, de Ferran, Grist, Fittipaldi, Unser, Gurney, Brabham... etc, etc, etc... all household names due simply to their ability to go fast.
When was the last time 400,000 people went to see a car show? The '99 Indy 500 had over 400,000 people in attendance.
Name one movie about good looking cars. Driven, Formula 1, Days of Thunder, and even FATF1/2 (even when it comes down to it in those movies, it's all about being
faster not better looking) are all movies about driving fast.
My point: Even though I can only speak for myself when I say "go >> show", there's overwhelming evidence that "go" brings more money, fame, popularity, and has a larger pop culture influence than "show" ever did. In short, if you
did bother to ask... most people would say, "go >> show" too.
