Narrower than OE is better than wider than OE for winter... of course having said that, I went with 205/50R15 Dunlop M3s on the Miata instead of stock size 195/50s in order to get the better tire (it was only available in a handful of sizes, and I had to wait for a re-stocking to get them). For the Miata, I figured I needed more of a slush tire than the all-out ice.snow dominator that is the WS50. The downside of the WS50 is that's a very soft compound intended for very cold temps- like -50 F up to freezing. I wore the ones on my van down halfway after only 10,000 miles or so. All in dry weather fairly warm this fall.
