No you can set your tire wear to none, mild, or strong, in the options settings in arcade mode. I set mine to mild tire wear. I was just messing with the settings, thats the same place that I made my race to 30 laps. I have not even attempted to play GT mode yet. With it set to mild it shows your tires and green is new, then blue, then yellow, orange, red etc.... the closer to red they are the closer to the wall you tend to be
