A properly designed FMIC will see almost no increase in lag compared to a TMIC. The old FMIC's with "custom" cores and under-engineered piping used to see a bit of lag, but new kits specifically designed for the car, that have piping sized for the application do very well with lag. Especially on the track, it's basically a non-issue.

In the same light, like Cody said, a good TMIC with proper turbo/exhaust heat shielding (to prevent heat soak) can have damn near the same performance as a FMIC, as long as you're not talking about cooling the charge from a massive turbo.
