With two driver cars, you can run with or without the other driver in the car, or take anybody else, it's up to the two of you. Most people will copilot for the first few runs, and get 2-3 solo runs to go after the points. Points are pretty simple- clicky for last year's results. 21 points for 1st, 16 for second, 14 for third, 12 for 4th, then -1 for each successive place. You always get one point for competing, regardless of the number of finishers.

For class points, you do not get 1 point regardless of place, though there are very few classes with more than 10 competitors at an event so getting 0 class points is rare.
In PAX, the scale is 21,19,18,17,16... down to 1, then 1 point for every competitor thereafter.
