Since this event sounds fairly unstructured, I'd wait to start with either autocross or an actual Driver's School. It's always fun to make light of Cody's spin, but he got ridiculously lucky.
I haven't tracked my car so I'm not sure exactly what it does to treadlife, but I am certain that it punishes the ENTIRE car, especially the wear items (rotors, pads, tires, etc). Listening to folk like Scott and Dean talk about their cars makes it sound like you get a couple years' daily driving worth of abuse in a season or less of tracking.

And I do know that they go through a lot of tires.
Of course, I'm forced to take the conservative approach to motorsports, as I'm racing my daily driver and can't really afford to have it out of service for more than a day. If you're not worried about the car much, then have at it.
