I don't know what it is, but I've heard a lot of people talk about it happening to them too. And it kind of makes sense. The engine is still 'breaking in' after 1k miles, up to 10k-15k or so, its just that the majority of the important parts of break in is pre-1k miles (like keeping it under a certain RPM level and whatnot).
