Default Simple Life/Reality TV Thread

OK . crank up the rant. Might need to read this in installments.

So Tuesday night I get home from work and flip on teh TV. Since I am without cable I cant just leave it on speed channel like you people. When I get to Fox The Simple Life is on. I will admit from the ad spots I saw on TV I was generally intrigued. What I thought would be a quirky little show about the two rich girls was alas nothing as I expected. In an opening scene they show the girls simply trying to drive an old truck out of an airport. At first it seems funny but underneath I felt demeaned as a common person. I mean how rich and unconnected these girls must be that driving the truck out of the airport is hard by any means. Some people would answer my question as the girls are idiots, but I would say they are ignorant which is different of course. Ignorant because of wealth and not caring which is way worse then being ignorant because of lack of outlets to explore. I mean they can't drive a stick because they were busy buying shit for themselves, getting manicures, and sleeping in. That pisses me off, yo!

Back to my previous point of me finding show demeaning. I makes me mad that these girls can be so RICH that it makes them ignorant. It constantly reminds me that so many rich people can laugh at the everyday tedious task a real hard working person does. The girls are so privileged they don’t have to deal with everyday tasks. And then people say well hey it serves them right b/c they are humiliating themselves on national TV. I take exception with this. They have so much money and privilege that they are I think basically insulated from any kind of repercussion or snide remark. Someone on the show might say “What are you girls doing are you stupid?” The audience might laugh. But underneath all that they are basically thinking. Well I am rich it doesn’t matter if I learn to do anything or be nice to anyone b/c I have no need to earn respect(from common people i.e the TV audience) or earn money for that fact. They can look back on this has a little side trip in their life of opulent enclosure. On many reality shows an embarrassing moment is often typified by real consequences or a feeling of camaraderie by the viewer. I have absolutely nothing in common with these two girls therefore I cannot express any empathy for their actions. It is not humiliating for them not know how to drive a truck or wear tight little couture outfits in barn. They really don’t give a shit. Sure they go through the show doing things and being a real person in the situation but the whole time they KNOW they are going back to catered dinners and personal limo drivers. I feel like I am getting the middle finger the whole time I’m watching that show. HA ha this is fun we are rich in this crap house, Lets pretend we care about the people living here and lets cry and pretend we find real work hard. This show would kick ass if it was hard core and they had to stay for like a year and not 5 weeks. You bet your ass they would start being nicer and doing shit right the first time or their lives would being a living hell.

Paris says she has never heard of Wal-Mart she is lying. A new york times journalist asked her and she said she did know but thought it would funny for the SHOW if she acted like she did not know. Geez, I wonder how much of the show is Paris thinking it would be funny to say something even though it is not true. HEY I got a guess.. maybe all of IT!

sorry for the length easy typing I guess.
