M-rated helmets are *not* legal in level 3 or 4 Time Trials, at least according to the
2006 rules. You can get by w/ a motorcycle helmet for PDX and Club Trials (though our region will not be running any Club Trials events this season), but for Track Trials and Hill Climb, safety is regulated by the GCR rules.
And frankly, I don't understand why anyone would pay $200 to hit the track, but not $200 for a new SA rated helmet. If you can't afford the proper safety equipment, you can't afford to go racing. An M helmet is passable as a temporary solution for autocross, but really, get an SA2005 if you plan on competing.
