It doesn't "work". Take that Word output, now imagine there's some real content in there, bloated all to hell, and edit it with VIM in a linux shell. Chances are, it can't be done... at least not in any sort of timely manner. IMO, that's broken. Just because you live in a windows world, and can get by w/ half-ass broken documents doesn't mean the rest of us have OCD.
Plus, when it comes to bandwidth, your word document formatting could actually cost me money. The Word document is 30 times larger than the hand-edited one... if we were using 30 times more bandwidth around here for the same content, it would noticeably effect the quality of service, not to mention the cost of hosting.
