I didn't read much of that thread... it's an old argument.

However, did anyone bother to mention over there why the US STi is 2.5L? US (ahem... CALIFORNIA!) emmissions regulations prevent the JDM 2.0L motor from being released in the US. That's the only reason they went to 2.5L, it was the nly way to get the performance they wanted w/o violating emissions rules. Subaru wanted to release an STi in the states w/o diluting it they way they have in the past.

To put it frankly, the US STi has a 2.5L because they're trying to stay true to the "real" STi, instead of releasing a US variant that's slower than the EDM and JDM models, as was done for years before, and is still done by all the other Japanese manufacturers, Subaru actually released a US version of their rally car that does live up to expectations. In fact EVO owners should be bitching they're not rolling deep w/ a 6 speed, DCCD, and Active Yaw Control.
