Car: 1994 Toyota 4Runner Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once | Vehicle issues

Ok, as some of you may recall, I blew up the motor in 4Runner last Sept. Well, last week I blew a head gasket on the brand new motor. Wow, my luck is just so great with vehicles now. I love it. Anyway, the motor is under warranty and instead of just having the headgasket replaced, the reman. company wants the mechanic to remove the engine and return it. They have decided that they will send me another motor instead of just fixing the head gasket. Which makes sense to me, as there was anti-freeze in the oil which means possible bearing damage. So, I called the mechanic up and told him not to work on the truck. Now I have to figure out how to come up with an extra $1200 for labor, or do it myself. Basically, I have been riding a bycicle back and forth to work all week. This sucks. Any ideas?

They should be warrantying the labor as well. If it's their fault the motor broke, and they're requiring you to pull it, they need to pay for it. Tell the shop to get in touch with the guys that are warrantying the motor.

Unfortunately, the mechanic tried that route already. I guess that is what I get for going with a cheaper remanufacturer. Their warranty specifically states, does not cover labor.

Guess the options are pull it yourself, or find a cheaper shop/mechanic.

If someone came out and fixed your plumbing but used materials that broke, would you seriously pay them a second time to fix it again with new materials? I don't see how it's ethical to charge you for something that wasn't your fault. It's not your problem that they used something that didn't warranty their work.

It is definetly not the mechanic's fault. With this motor I had some issues with it leaking oil, a lot of oil. They spent three different days of about 6 hours each fizing the issues. We thought we had it fixed, then after a few days it was still leaking. So, we put florescant die in it and found where it was leaking another time. We got those issues fixed, and I didn't have to pay a dime. It lookes like I will be out of a vehicle for a couple weeks now. So, my legs are getting quite the workout from riding around everywhere. I am actually enjoying it enough, that I might get my own bike.
