So, I had a Linksys wireless router. It worked great, but then it died. I'm sad about this now cause I got a Belkin as a replacement which doesn't seem to work as well.
![]() We have two android phones that we connect to our wifi, but they only seem to download correctly, not upload. With the old router everything worked fine. If I run a speed test on the phones the download part zips right through and then just hangs on the upload part forever. Some other apps tend to display this behavior too. It seems like maybe a port forwarding issue, but I have no idea how to deal with that on a phone. There don't seem to be any wifi settings on the phones for setting up a static ip.. nor would I want one cause I want to use it on other wifi connections too. The wifi connection also seems to 'refresh' itself a lot or something, like the wifi icon will blink out for a second and then reappear/reinitialize. Any thoughts? Is there some trick to getting a Belkin to not be a POS?

Have you checked to see if there is a newer version of the firmware? You can try resetting the router to factory presets by holding a pin in the reset button the back. Maybe there's a screwy QOS setting or something.

If you reused your old SSID and WEP/WPA key, try deleting and readding the network from the phones. I have seen funkyness with that.
Assuming your router is new and 802.11N, make sure it is in 802.11B/G/N mode, not N only or G/N only. Belkins are not the greatest or worst. Check for an update or DD-WRT compatibility. What model is it?

I've checked for updates in the router settings and applied one.
I also deleted and readded the network from all the devices. It's a Belkin N300, model F9K1002v1. It's also set in B/G/N compatibility mode. Another annoyance is that now when my desktop goes to sleep to save power, sometimes when I start it back up it gets an IP address conflict, I presume from our laptop or something else that has powered on in the meantime. It's like the IP that the computer had was given away and the router is too stupid to resolve it or something. This never happened with the old Linksys.

It is highly likely the Belkin uses a different IP range than the Linksys.
The DHCP reservation time is probably too short. Set it to 14 days or so. I assume the DHCP server is enabled. If you set any to static IPs, make sure they are outside the range of the DHCP range.

Get a Mikrotik, the card of choice, and do anything you want. Modern consumer routers are just sucking more and more. I miss the WRT54G......
