To be honest, after the very 1st swing that hit the bumper, I would have just dropped the car into gear, and floored it right over the guy, up onto the curb and out into traffic. No hesitation... someone comes at me swinging with a tire-iron, I get the fuck out of there ASAP. If they get run over... well they shouldn't have been attacking me and standing in my route of escape.

I don't think there wouldn't be any thought about lawsuits involved... if some crackhead caught me by surprise and started beating on the car and windows trying to get at me with a crowbar, my first instinct would be to throw the car in gear and run him over to neutralize the threat.

Along this theme, however, I've always thought that a video of 3-4 people jumping up and down on top of a POS *insert your love2hate car here* smashing the crap out of it with pitchforks, axes, and sledgehammers to a tune like "Down With the Sickness" would rule. One of these days I'm going to make that film.

A friend of mine that was a Captain in the US Army until recently organized a fund-raising event at Ft. Drum NY that included this precise scenario, except that they charged people to administer justice. I have not yet forgiven him for not videotaping it.
