Default Cats and emissions

Hey, so I'm enjoying my second month here in Reno. I'm from CA and am used to some pretty strict smog checks. Well I got my car smogged last week and the lady laughed when I asked what the Visual Inspection consists of. She said she just has to make sure the check engine light isn't lit up.

However I did notice she hooked somthing up to the ODBII connector. Will they detect engine management with that? Also, since there's no sniffer, I'm assuming running catless is plausible? Anybody keeping there 3rd cat on their WRX or 2nd cat on their STI?

Also, is there any 93 octane around (crosses fingers)?

Unless there is a CEL, the OBD plug-in won't detect your tune. I run my STi Catless. And No, there is no 93 here, we are in the same boat as CA.

Actually matt you can get 95 up to 115 at the 76 depot off of 4th street. you can also get 110 at the pump on 4th street too. The pump is at the gas station next to allied washoe..but it will cost you either way.

Well, I assumed he was referring to 93 pump gas. You can always get the higher octance shit if you want to pay for it.

Yah, I don't think I want to pay any more than I already do...and I'm not a drag racer anyway, so I think I'm going to just get a 91 map and a valet mode/fuel efficient map. Thanks for the info though.

sorry Matt you were right...I was tired when I posted that..there used to be a place that pumped more than 91 and 92 when we had it. It was in some small off the main road kind of hidden station...I think it was one of the Indian res. ones..but i don't know if it is still around.

So for you guys running catless, do you have any issues like come time to smog, or do cops pull you over when they smell the unburnt fuel?

Basically, aside from the environmental impact, any potential issues?

Any recomendations for a 3rd Cat eliminator that won't break the bank?
