Default paint chipping

Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes....

Any other Subie owners out there have problems with paint chipping? Seems like every week when I wash my sonic yellow Subie I have several new paint chips. Just curious if it's certain colors or Subaru's paint in general.

If anyone's got any suggestioned. I'd certainly appreciate it.

I have had a blue and now a white suby, on both cars I found paint chips every time I washed them. The solution was to stop washing them.

(Touch up paint helps too)

Get it touched up, or go all out with a full resto front end respray, then clear bra it. no other way to prevent it. Even my 2001 RS, which only had mediocre paint compared to the nano-layer on newer Subarus didn't make it through even one winter here.

The front of my car looks like I use a cheese grater to wash and wax it. Subaru paint is horrible.

I've got Sonic Yellow too. I also have a Rock Blocker 3M clearbra. There are some imperfections I caused when installing it (poorly), and it doesn't cover the entire front of the car (like the hood scoop and right below the headlights), but it defenitely protects what it covers. I didn't pay sombody to install it and it shows, but nobody notices except me...

BTW, if you use the recomended alcohol solution to aid the install, it will disolve the suby touch up paint you may have used beforehand. It's not too bad, but Suby touch-up sonic yellow doesn't match very well anyway.

Yeah, it looks like the prevous owner used some touch up paint. It looks better than the black molding showing, but it's really not that close to the OEM color.

I'm not familar with clear bras. Can you visually see them? I'll have to research them.
There was a standard bra in the trunk when I purchased the car, were it will remain. I personally dont like bras on cars.

In fact, if anyone out there can use a bra for a bug eye, your more than welcome to have it. Could be good for a DD or car driven on several road trips.

You don't want to run that bra if you still have the TMIC. It will cause air turbulence and reduce airflow through the IC. A clear bra is like thick plastic wrap cut specifically for the shape of your car. I got mine from www.rockblocker.com. Unless you don't mind a frustrating install and possible imperfections, I'd pay an experienced installer. Usually you can find a tint shop that will install it for you, but I'd make sure they have experience. Or maybe I just suck at it. Oh, and you can see it, but if installed well, it is hard to notice and looks good actually IMHO.
