Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default STI web sites?

Any good sources for STI specific information?

Right now, I am looking for info on why the speedo reads high, and a couple other things like:
Intcooler sprayer water (tap, or distilled)
Intercooler sprayer controller? WOT switch, or other options.
...

It's good to know we have such a wam friendly group willing to help each other out.

For all you wise asses, I barely have bandwidth for SECCS. I use nasioc, wrxtuners, Scoobymods i-club, etc. as resources, but don't "read" them, and have had no reason to go searching for STI specific resources until now, so

I'm just saying that you look like you've got an STi specific question, but instead of asking it, you ask for other websites to look up.

You may not have the time to read all the other boards (I know I don't either), but there are people here that do, which means if you ask a specific question, not only is there a good chance someone can point you to another board, they may already know the answer. Remember, most of the STi owners here have been racing 'em since '03.

The owners manual says to Only use distilled water in your IC spray tank. When i bought mine (used) the man had clearly been using tap water as there was a few tiny 'things' in the tank (very small particles, sand? something?) i ended up draining it all out and refilling it , but if you just filtered some water with like a brita i would ** think** it would be okay. the standerd button sprays the ic for about 3 seconds.
In what autox class is adding or moddifying an IC Sprayer legal ? (i know its specifically not allowed in SP) (i've been wondering about setting up something automated for mine, that or just duct taping the button down for my run )

I believe any changes to the waterspray system immediately put you in street modified, since I can't recall ever reading a rule that allows you to modify the system. In all classes lower than SM, if it's not listed as legal, it's illegal.

15.1 C 3. As utilized only on engines originally equipped with forced
induction, induction charge heat exchangers (known as “intercoolers”
or “charge air coolers (CACs)”) are unrestricted in
size and configuration. Air-to-air CACs and radiators for airto-
liquid CACs must be cooled only by the atmosphere, except
for standard parts. Body panels, fascias, or structural
members may not be cut or altered to facilitate CAC installation.

in SM there is no mention of intercoolers at all so i'de think this applies
16 (street Mod) B. Competitors may pick and choose between all Stock, Street
Touring, Street Prepared, and Street Modified allowances when
preparing an SM car. Apparent conflicts between inherited rule
sets from 16.1.A shall not prohibit any specific inherited allowance.
Allowances inherited from 16.1.A may not incorporate SMspecific
allowances. Foreign spec parts may not be used

(prepared)
17.3 D 3 Only air-to-air intercoolers may be used. They must fit completely
within the bodywork. They must be cooled only by the
atmosphere. The use of coolants such as water, dry ice, ice,
etc. is prohibited.

So nothing from stock to prepared seems to allow the exteral use of water on an IC if its not a factory part. the factory STI sprayer is a 3 second blast per button push. as long as you get the same manufactor free part swaps you should be legal in sm with the STI sprayer, but not an altered one. (course i could be missing some rule somewhere)

Modified doesn't specifically say that non factory IC sprayer, or the external use of Ice/water is / or is not allowed.. ?!? i have not really looked in that part of the rules much though.

some non factory IC sprayer is something i've been hoping to do but it looks like its Mod class or not allowed in autox. (ruling snafu ? or maybe they don't you to run on 80F charged air when its 90F out?)

Doh !
Does tapping down a button count as a mod ? or does it count as simply using a stock feature on your car ?

My manual does not call for distilled. I beleive the manual says "filtered". I was looking for additional experiences/opinions.

Do you use distilled or filtered water when you wash the car?

I'm pretty sure tap water doesn't hurt the intercooler. And it probably won't hurt the pump or plastic tank/tube/nozzles. Worst case scenario... in 10 years you might have to clean some bits (oh noes!).
