Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default 04 STI rear struts???

Anybody found a reasonable solution for the '04 rear strut clunk?

It looks like the Koni's require you to reuse the old struts and you end up with a smaller strut doing the work.

And the KYBs require some sort of modification.

Haven't found a good price for the Stockers yet.

I'm not sure I want to put the DMS or other coilovers on yet, and wanted to finish exploring these options.

Anybody got some insight? Nasioc hates me right now, so I haven't found anyything therre yet.

I'll sell you a set of Koni/GC struts if you'd like.

So you have the stockers on their and want to replace only the rears? I've heard a temporary fix is to just grease them.

Will they use stock STI springs? If not, no.

Think outside the box and get some stock perches welded on!

Is the clunk bad? I have not heard mine do it, Guess it is just a random thing. Just put the DMS on. Daily drive the Audi. Pretty simple solution. And you don't need to shell out any more moneys.

It's not great. I think I am going to send the DMSs in for servicing before they go back in anything, so I need to deal with the clunk in the meantime.

It's just a noise Dean (it's only a model...), deal with it the way most people do- turn the radio up. Nothing is going to asplode if you don't service the struts or replace them.

Hey wasn't this a TSB for the STis? My roommates rears do that too... Or was this not even covered under warranty?

Yes. Welcome to the world of STI inverted struts with a marginal design.

My DMSes don't have this problem, but they are double bushed, and I assume have a better static overlap to minimize/eliminate torque canting of the strut at or near full extension.
