Default Time for a new car!

No for real this time. Once the frame (unibody) on the RS got bent I decided I really had to finally let it go. Now I'm graduating will have a job inside of two weeks and it's time to start looking.

My choices...

2005-2006 STi
Keeping with the Subaru habit. I like the torque and out of the box performance. On the negative side, they always feel soft and heavy when I drive them and lack of a sunroof FTL.

2003+ EVO GSR or MR
It's a Mitsu so I have to deal with douchebag owners. Sharper than the STi and better looking, but less of punch in the stomach torque.

2005+ Tacoma TRD extended cab 4x4
Return to my 4x4 roots. Still has decent power but I can take it camping and off-roading. Girls probably like it more than either of the cars too.

2004+ Titan
Bigger and cooler looking than the Tacoma and usually cheaper too. V8 power but also V8 mpg and it's large for driving in LA.

Outside chances if I get a really good job...

2007 335ci
It's an awesome car but I might (will) feel like a tool for dropping $45k on a car.

2005 Elise
It's an elise, but it's also an elise. Fun but not practical.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

I vote STi, because given your lack of autocross and track habits, the Evo is only superior for street racing really. It will get old fast as a daily driver. But either is better than the rest of your choices.

I still have a soft spot for Tacomas.

I say it or the STi (and you are a GC traitor, but I'm cool with that).

Lancers are a dime a dozen in So Cal, you should mix things up and buy a STI

If you still have a 2nd car for practical driving, Elise hands-down.

I don't want an 07. Subaru keeps making their cars worse.

I could probably swing two cars, but I wouldn't be buying another condo/house anytime soon. So I dunno if I like that plan. My car choice is partially dependent on whether I decide to buy a place there too.

-1 on the Elise. They are *really* small. I mean *really*. Think "Miata without the massive expanses of people and storage space". Think "a Goldwing motorcycle can carry twice as much stuff". Think "dear god, why did I spend $30k on the car with the equivalent practicality of a scooter". The only thing an Elise does well is drive at the track... no space, no power steering, no torque, stiff clutch, loud, windy, darty. It's basically a street legal Kart. You better have a nice comfortable truck in addition to that Elise, and a garage to park the Elise in.

As far as the other choices... since you're not autocrossing it, stock for stock, I think the STI > EVO... it's nicer, more fun to drive on the street (torque), rides better, and if you're willing to pull off the wing it draws less attention. But in LA, either car is gonna be a dime-a-dozen and the chicks will be turned off by the boy-racer aspect. If you're gonna live in LA and bother to play the game there, you'll need the new BMW at a minimum, or it's no plasticly endowed women for you. <insert Swinger's "what car do you drive" clip here>

And to the trucks... you're right, the mileage on the Titan would suck compared to the Toyota. It's by far the most practical choice on your list. I'm not sure that's a good thing, since cars IMO should be more fun then practical sometimes... but I think you'd be happier w/ a truck you like right now, then pick up a GC with a swap or even that Elise in the future.

Ya I think I've basically settled on a Tacoma. I've wanted one for a long time and it's something I can see myself keeping until it can't run anymore. I might try to slide into a condo though, so all my money will go towards that at first if I do. So the truck would be put off a few months. We'll see, I got my first offer today and it's solid but I was hoping for more so I'm not jumping at the thought of throwing down a ton of money. haha Then I will start the search for a low mileage GM coupe...

With a new job, are you going to be spending more hours at work, than hours driving a fun car? If so -- I'd be spending the money on a functional vehicle with good visibility for those SoCal freeway driving experiences; yet still has smart looks.
Yay for you on having choices.

Ow. That's too bad. Different seating geometry, hm?

Mad tyte? I think Mike's new M3 qualifies.
