Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default I'm back...

Well, It's a good thing I didn't get my house sold.

I was one of the victims of the layoffs at Harrah's.

Even though I have been with the company for a long time, being the newest person in my position when one of those positions gets eliminated makes me low man on the totem pole.

It was quite unexpected, and shook me up pretty good.

They gave me a nice severance package, but it is very weird being unemployed at my age. OK, it was weird being unemployed when I was younger as well.

I know I'll find something where I can use my skills. What you guys need to worry about is my being around for at least some if not the whole autocross season.

I'm not restricting my search to Reno or gaming, so may end up relocating anyway.

Anybody know anywhere looking for IT leadership, senor gurus, etc? Over 20 years experience as an IT professional. I have experience managing people, teams, projects, vendors, as well as architecting, specifying, building, testing and deploying everything from small office to multi-location multi-million dollar projects.

Man, there is no such thing as job security anymore, is there? Keep the good attitude, Dean. Change can be good.

Ouch! That sucks!

Keep in mind that it usually takes about 1 month for every $10k/yr in salary your position pays... so when you're looking from high up, it will likely take a while to find something worth accepting. You might want to hit up a recruiter to help make contacts quicker.

I'd suggest applying w/ IGT, but I doubt we're looking for employees in IT at your level... those jobs are few and far between.

Good luck man! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help in your search!

Sorry to hear it Dean.

But, with your level of experience I don't think it'll be that hard to land a new position. Is this all due to the recent re-privatization of Harrah's?

No, actually this "optimization" excercise was initiated months before that was announced. a couple hundred people mostly at corporate from staff to top level management were affected.

Sorry to hear that, man. I'll keep an eye out in CA, but I don't think we're looking for anything other than datacenter ops and support right now.

BSP, SM, RNP... It's all good. I am just going to have a blast learning to drive the torquemonster that my STI has become.

It seems to be hard to have job security anymore. My friend has been the regional sales manager for Pepsi for the past 18yrs and just got layed off also unexpectedly. Sorry to hear that dean.

Ooph, that's harsh. Gainful unemployment isn't that bad, for the first couple months anyways. Sometimes it beats being ungainfully employed. Hopefully you'll find a position you enjoy in any case.

Dean, sorry to hear that went down like it did, I got laid off in 05, and it was a shock as well. Anyway, I'll keep my eye open..

What happened sucks, as much for Harrah's (who will soon realize it) as it does for Dean. Dean did great things on the job, kept people honest, built processes that will outlive most who work there now.

I've gotta say that I'm kinda glad you're not leaving as well dude! We need our old timer around to remind us how it was back when auto-x was run via horse drawn carriage!!

Sucks about the job man, but with your abilities and personality, I'm sure you'll be able to tie something down without too much hassle!
