Default drifting march 24 reno fernley raceway

i know, i know it's not usually subaru territory, but hey, you probably know someone who wants to go to our drift event march 24. and i already browse this forum regularly. it's only $75 to drive, sideways, mind you. check out www.tahoemotorsports.com for more details.

I was unaware that Reno had a large drifting community.

Last time when IVM? had a drag racing at the RFR they try to have a drift show too. Many interesting but they said only 5 people sign up and many no show so they cancel it. I don't think it gonna be big. I love to watch it just watch.

I am actually very tempted to go. While learning to initiate a drift isn't high on my list of things to do, learning to better handle a car in a tail out situation may have significant value.

Stiffen the rear bar, and switch the DCCD to full rear, and I assume it would be somewhat doable in the STI? I have a mixed set of 215/615s I'd like to kill anyway.

With the DCCD fully open, isn't the torque split still like 30/70? Sounds like all kinds of bad for the center dif if I'm not mistaken.

Torque split on the STi is not variable, it's *always* 35/65. The DCCD controls the amount of slip required before the center diff locks and forces power to the non-slipping wheels. So in 50/50 mode you get no leeway, front and rear wheels must spin the same speed; in 10/90 mode you get tons of leeway, the rear tires can be smoking away spinning 9 times faster than the fronts.

The problem with drifting a Subaru is that in order to use the throttle to maintain the drift, you are also accelerating the car. No such thing as hanging the back out and letting it sit there... the front tires will pull you forward. So you can drift an STi, you just have to be willing to enter the corner at 30 mph, throw the ass out, and exit the corner at 120 mph. Remember, these things were designed for loose surface acceleration! For all intents and purposes, drifting on tarmac is exactly opposite of what a Subaru is for!

Interesting. So it shouldn't be all that bad for the dif, relatively speaking?

Relative to what? Autocross? Hot lapping at the track? Parking at SafeWay?

I'd say it's probably not the best thing to do to the car. But it's not like towing it with two wheels in the air. Setting the DCCD to 10/90 is the "nicest" thing you can do because it's not locking up all that much, but then your going out and romping the shit out of the car...

Well, I mean it's fairly obvious that getting sideways in any car is hard on the drivetrain. That's what I meant by relatively speaking.

Make it happen Cory, for the sake of Bobby's balls and the endless ridicule he'll receive since he's been complaining about the lack of drift events in the area for years

Oh, but I do. And we both know who has a better memory of the two.

Just go hold up a couple convenient stores and get the car ready for the event!

reno is a convenient location for me and the rest of our crew that lives in tahoe. also reno is a good location because pro control drive school(locals to reno fernley raceway) like the drift idea.

i posted on this forum because i'm frequently logged on already.

we'll have a few guys up from LA's "drift buffet" crew to help out and give driving advise. similar to an an autocross school.

Hey man we are not mad or anything that you posted this here.

I think it's cool, I just wasn't sure you would get much of a response.

oops, i hope i didn't seem defensive. i was shooting for infomative. i'm anxious to see how it turns out too. drifting isn't exactly my "thing", but i thought it would be fun to be a part of hosting an event. and give back to the community. and for the record i do think getting sideway is way cool. i really wanted to get involved so that by the time i get a chance to host a rally for me, i'll know how to do it. oh yeah and i'll have a car that can handle the abuse.
