Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default MFT: Moldable Fabric Technology: Carbon Fiber for the rest of us?

NASCAR, the land of push rod V-8s may well contribute to new automotive technology yet...

Your next wing, air dam, or body panel be made out of something called MFT, or Moldable Fabric Technology... I was just watching qualifying at bristol and the Car Of Tomorrow, and when they were coming off the banking, they commented that the front splitters are made out of MFT which has many of the qualities of carbon fiber while being semi flexible...

I can't find an actual reference to the splitter, but here is the internal safety panel...

http://www.tpr2.com/racing.htm

And here is the MFT manufacturer page.

I realize NASCAR didn't invent it, but it might actually be an innovation that they lead the development and deployment of.

Yeah, you could make some beefy bumpers, splitters and/or air dams out of that stuff.

The true test will be tomorrow, when the race at Bristol. Usually that's a crash fest, so it will be interesting to see how the new bit hold up.
