Default Ford Truck Help

My dad has a 99 F350 7.3L TD and something happened yesterday to the front passenger side hub. He took it into a shop to see if they knew what was wrong and they said it would cost $2400 to fix!! However they said if he brought it in today that they would have it done by lunch time. I think they are really trying to hose him so I said to hold out. Basically when you are driving the truck there is a mild pulsing that you can feel in the steering wheel. When you turn right or left the pulsing become much more noticable. Speed obviously changes the speed of the pulsing. I really have no idea how a hub and locking system works on a 4x4 but I know some of you do. Any advice would be awesome. Also if any of you have a manual or a diagram that shows all the parts that make up the front hub that would be awesome

I would imagine if the fix requires a complete new hub, plus the labor to swap it, you could be looking at a $2000+ price tag at a shop.

If the problem is just a wheel bearing or something, it could likely be done at home for cheap, but you're gonna need the tools to handle working on a beast of a truck... like a massive floor jack and jack stands, etc.

Yeah he has all that. You can purchase a new pair of hub assemblies for under $400 and at Reno Auto Wrecker used ones are pretty cheap so I think we are just gonna swap the whole thing out.

Turns out that it was only a frozen u-joint. That sucker was welded in there but I guess that is to be expected after 260k miles. Damn good truck.
