Default Reno-Fernley Event 6/13-6/14

T.E.A.M. Racing will be putting on a HPDE the second weekend in June. Bonni runs a great event and there will be a bunch of Mazda Miata's and RX7's for you guys to rough up. $225 for 1 day and $400 for both.

Wow! I didn't think TEAM was gonna make it back to RFR considering the economy and the losses they've taken w/ events there in the past.

That's great news, Bonni puts on excellent events! I should probably try to have the WRX tuned by then to go out and play!

It's been tough for most groups, Trackmasters won't be back to RFR this year at all. Last Sunday we had only 13 students for HPDE 1&2 at NASA Thunderhill.

Sorry that I opened a new thread without checking to see if someone had already posted about the RFR event. Whoops. Anyway, we are running the full (course A) 4.1 mile course. You don't need a lot of horse power -- just a finger that can point faster cars by. Seriously, this track has it all -- high speed areas followed by technical areas, tons of elevation change, blind hills, swooping banked turns. You can't go wrong with the fun factor at this place!

And yes, we've lost money in the past, but that's why we have a special bank account just for when that happens. When we make money, we save it for when we don't get enough drivers. Plus, Reno-Fernley (albeit the last place that does this) always works with us if we're short on drivers. They are smart enough to realize that even though they've been there for five years, folks still have not really caught on. So what's this mean for us? Less traffic!!! Can't hardly beat that.

I hope to see you all out there. Play on the track during the day, possibly cruise the casinos at night. I'm usually too lazy to drive all the way to Reno, but I bet plenty of drivers will be seen there taking in the night life. Just don't take it in too much -- it makes for slow lap times the next day.

Does this HPDE you speak of require a special license or certification to participate?

Nope! Usually you need a driver's license, a helmet, long sleeves, long pants, appropriate shoes (sneakers), and a car with working factory safety equipment, no leaks, and good brakes and tires.

My seat belt don't do the jerk-lock thing, do you think that will fail tech?

Uhh... you're saying your seatbelt is broken? Not only won't that pass tech, you're a madman for driving around on the streets!

If you need a stock seatbelt, I've got the ones out of my WRX you can just have if it'll keep you from killing yourself!

the 1993 impreza's didn't come with that feature.
I have only driven my car on the street like 4x in the past 2 months, to and from autox. If I need the newer kind of belt to pass tech I may take you up on that offer.

The seatbelt locking when pulled on hard isn't a "feature"... that's how the seatbelt keeps you from hitting the winshield! You might be thinking of a "pre-tensioner" that actively tightens the belt during an accident... but if the seatbelt locking mechanism doesn't work at all, then the seatbelt doesn't work at all.

Unless your car has airplane style fixed belts... which I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

My WRX belts should be straight bolt in... you should just take 'em and toss them in there.

Some belts do not lock without lateral acceleration or deceleration in this case. They do not have a centrifugal lock.

Do they lock when you hit the brakes hard?

I really can't tell, my body is leveraged against the brake pedal in those situations. I know the first gen impreza's don't come with the fancy pull hard and fast and it locks belts though.

My helmet I used for autocross is an M95, their website they have a link to says 00, is that a higher requirement or lower?
Just trying to prioritize what I must have and what I would like to have. Didn't really want to buy a new helmet, but I will IF I have to.

IIRC m95 is still good for another year or so, when the next one comes out your helmet is done. I could be wrong though.

The 2005 helmets have been out for a while, so yeah, an upgrade would be ideal. You can rent one from the track if you don't wanna buy a new one, however. But think about it . . . a 14 year-old helmet can be deteriorating -- and you don't wanna find out if that is the case at just the wrong moment!

Seat belts have had that lock feature long before 1993 or so. Even my old (no longer with me) '79 Toyota had the lock feature. It's been an industry requirement since at least the 80s, I'm fairly certain. But if someone is willing to give you some nicer belts, heck -- hop on it! They don't take long to replace -- you could do it at the track easily.

You do not need to have a special permit to run with us at our events. In fact, running with our program will actually get you a Reno-Fernley permit! They approved us about three years ago after witnessing how safe and organized we (try to be) are. So either way, you're good to go.

I wish I was making it, but LeMons ate up my track time funds for now. Plus I never got around to tuning the WRX.
