Default Poll: packing peanuts

Packing peanuts lessen the quality of my day. I will no longer use them, even recycled ones somebody else sent me.

Their only redeeming value is that some of them can pop if you squish them just right. But doing it makes a static-clingy mess just that much messier.

IMO their redeeming value is the ultra-cheapness and re-usability on outgoing packages. They do the job well enough.

I was just moving some stuff around my garage last night and knocked over an old box with those in there that went everywhere. That reminded me how much I hate those things!

I received two shipments of equipment for my lab at work last week FULL of those damn peanuts. They got everywhere; I had to spend a good amount of time vacuuming them up.

Down with packing peanuts!!!!!!!!!!

The only ones I wouldn't mind are the ones that my high school chemistry teacher showed the class once. When you mixed them with water, they dissolved. I think they were made out of some sort of grain product, so they were completely biodegradable and fine to rinse down the sink, once they were dissolved. Being packing peanuts, they would still be annoying, but at least they wouldn't fill up landfills as much.

They're edible too. Made from corn starch. Mmmm.

Its nice to just dump them in when you are shipping something, esp if you hate the person you are shipping an item to.

also you can pack them under someones seats you don't like and when they open their windows ..... muahahaha

I use/recycle them, but put them in used/recycled tied off plastic grocery bags. They can be molded around anything, but do not become an aggravation.

With all the shipping and warehousing brass on this board, I assume one of us could hook you up with a solution...

That 2-part chemical foam stuff is awesome. Nice wow-factor when people open their packages.

I used to way over use that crap. You could always tell which boxes I had packed 'cause they were round with foam leaking out the corners.

I don't need a solution. I just don't like peanuts on the receiving end. On the shipping end they're fine.

Seriously, I have never bought a packing peanut before - not even one, but I can't throw them away. Kinda a cross between Senor Cheap Bastard and a Senor Tree Hugger. So I usually pass on the love to somebody else in the shipping chain. I might try stuffing them in plastic bags for filling voids, but I anticipate regretting it. Sounds like a good job for pseudo-slave child labor. "Here, Alex/Auds, stuff all these bags with packing peanuts until there are no peanuts left. Oh, and be sure to clean up the mess before you are done."

Who voted "love them!"?!

anyway..... Whenever I receive a package with them, I try and pull the item out of the box without any of them spilling out of the box.. It hasn't worked yet. The little white bastards always seem to make a mess that I don't feel like dealing with. They all need to burn in hell.

I hate packing peanuts...or as my grandma called them "ghost farts". they end up everywhere in your house and on your clothes for weeks, kind of like hooking up with a chick who's wearing glitter.

What I really love is when some idiot eBay seller ships me a car stereo, amp or subwoofer in a huge box half filled with styrofoam peanuts. I guess they think the shipper will know or care what's in the box and be super careful not to turn it over. Also, the idiot seller will never wrap the item in plastic before tossing all the peanuts in, meaning I get to spend my time taking apart a $300 stereo and picking all the broken little pieces out of the inside.

I hate packing peanuts with a passion.
