Hey guys, a buddy of mine is having some issues with his transmission on his 02 WRX and I'm just reposting his post on another forum here. Any help would be great!
This is my first time posting on this website so please pardon any noobish questions or assertions. I recently (2months ago) purchased an '02 WRX from a repossession dealership. I haven't had any terribly significant issues with the car in any respect, but this past weekend I was heading home from a friends house when this happened : So the story goes as I am coming out of first heading into second I applied the clutch and the pedal quite simply stuck in as if there was no pressure pushing it back out. Then the car showed various unhappy lights and proceeded to shut off. What I am looking for here is any advice on what to do about this issue? Where is a good place in Reno to have this inspected/repaired? Really any insights on the matter would be helpful at this point! Last edited by awoods177; 2010-10-19 at 05:07 PM. |

Hi Alex,
I saw the thread he posted on renoscca.org, and responded there. The short version is that we can take care of it here at KSpeed Automotive in Sparks, and we can beat anybody on price without sacrificing at all on quality. Kevin

Hey Kevin,
Didn't realize he had posted locally already, but thats awesome that you guys could help out. Do you have any idea if he would have to source an entire transmission or if he could just replace a part? Or would you just have to take a look at it to know for sure? Hes obviously trying to do this as cheap as possible while keeping it reliable. Thanks! |

Based on the pics, it *appears* that either the clutch fork or the rod it tilts on failed. There's a chunk missing out of the case where the clutch fork goes through, but that might not be an issue. If it is, we have a busted WRX transmission with a good case we can use. Most likely though, we can pull the gearbox and fix the clutch fork issue and check to see if there's an underlying cause for that failure, and go from there. I'm at home so I can't check what the book time for that is, but I'd guess it's in the 5-6 hour ballpark. If his case needs to be replaced, it may be less expensive to source a used gearbox than to have us rebuild it, but I'll have to check on that when I'm back at the shop.
