So I got the new wheels and tires on the other day and noticed 60mph and above the steering wheel get's shaky. Well I just the wheels rebalanced thinking that was the problem, and it's still slightly shaky.. Any ideas of what it could be besides being off balance?

Could still be an out of balance wheel. I've had a buddy who got new tires and rims, but they were not balanced right. he went back and it got better, but still an issue, he went back again and found out that garage had found an issue with their tire balance, rebalanced him and the 3rd time was the charm.
I've also had wobbles due to , wheel bearing, steering rack, inner and or outer tie rods, and they have all felt like an out of balance wheel (more or less) i've also had a wheel that was falling off and it felt out of balance too .. =\ meh |

When I took it back he said he re calibrated the machine.. it's a bit better. but still shaky. It didn't do it til i put these wheels on. I guess it's all a guessing game now..

Or try putting someone else;s set of tires on your car and see if you still get shaking / vibrations.
the front to back is a lot easier though. ![]() |

Well it wasn't happening the day before I put the new ones on.. But I'll try the front to back first.
I took a spirited run up Geiger this afternoon, and after that the shake seemed slightly less worse.. Idk how that works out though.

Sometimes a tire needs to be unmounted, rotated on the wheel and remounted. Like Matt said, even if a tire is perfectly round it might still be slightly heavier in spots. If your shop doesn't have a road force balancer, you might try finding one who does.

Could also be built up dirt, mud, and or debris I know after rally crosses (esp if there's any mud) I'll get some really bad shaking. Probably not your situation but a quick peek won't hurt any

You'd hope that even the most retarded shop tech wouldn't try to balance, then rebalance a mud coated wheel.

good point. though if its just one tiny block of mud stuck , they might miss it. my winter rims hide mud behind the spokes really good, even after $2 at a self spray , with all the time spent on rims i've missed a lump or two..

It was for sure not mud. the wheels barely had any brake dust on them. I had just put them on. Brand new Wheels, Brand new tires.
When I get back in the country I'll have to figure it out...

Maybe your steering wheel fluid is low.

Actually, a common problem with the svx is a bad o-ring between the power steering reservoir and pump. The pump ends up sucking air and causes vibration in the steering. But that only shakes when turning, and it's not very speed sensitive.

So i put the other set of wheels and tires on that I have, and the problem was gone.. so I think it's the wheels. Another guy on nasioc PM'd me and said he's having the same problems with his DPT's.

FWIW, I never had problems with DPT's, thought I was running a "correct fitment" set as opposed to herrafrush.
Rotate back to front one side at a time (I hope you labelled when you pulled them off or this could take a while, lol) and see if it changes, that will tell you more.

My wheels aren't "herra frush". they're barely even flush with the car. But everybody likes things differently on their car..
Anyways, The other guy that's having this problem too has 18x8.5. So I dont know if it has to do with them being a "uncorrect fitment". But yea I did label them. haha i didnt wanna have to keep switching them.

oh ok. lol
No there is no clearance problems, and I dont have to run stupid amounts of camber that are gonna wear the tires out. It's reasonable alignment, and no rubbing issues. Cory just rolled the fenders and that's all that had to be done.

Is it possible to get a tire taken off, and have the wheel guy do a test balance on the rim with no tire just to see how far its off , or maybe there's just 1 that's way off ? if so i would hope the manufacturer will replace it (and maybe kick you some money for tire mounts / dismounts)
? wishful thinking ? |
