Default AutoX School Question

Is it possible to have a co-driver, for the school in April?

hmm... If the school was exactly like it was last year, I would say no.

However, this year's school is supposed to follow a different path and focus more on the "procedures" of autocross, instead of an actual driving focus. Giving a better idea to new participants of what they are expected to do, where they should be, etc.

I will email the event organizer and get the scoop. I'll let you know Bob.

Okay, I got word back regarding the driver school.

The students will be broken into two groups, alternating class and track time.

So YES, two driver cars will be allowed.

is a two driver car the same as a driver and a passenge? A friend of mine is really interested in coming down with me for the autocross days. and i'm sure he will want to ride in the car with me (if allowed) and if there is a 2nd helmet available. (not sure if that is allowed on actual races also ) but i'll see, i bet the classes explain a lot of this. can i pay my scca fees when i go the first class ? ?

Helmets are scarce during school, and reserved for the students who are running at the time. You may also have an instructor riding with you, so there may be no room for passenger. Have them bring their own car and try it...

We also encourage anyone who can to scrounge a helmet to do so. To use it, it has to have an orange sticker on/in it somewhere that says "SNELL" and then 95 2000, or 2005. an SA, or M before the year is OK.

I just bought a new helmet for when I'm riding my chopper. Is this OK for SCCA?

If you are going to buy something, I strongly suggets a SNELL M2005, or SA2005. If you are serious about this, the SA2005 will be better in the long run as it is designed for automobile use, not Motorcycle, but it will cost a little more.

Sizes are fairly consistant, especially within a brand. If you try a Bell Medium in a (M) motorcycle helmet, it is very likely a Medium Bell SA will fit the same.

Both the GForce GF750, and the Pyrotect Open Face SA2005 helmets can be had for about $150 shipped from a number of location. (Froogle for "Open face sa2005")

M Series versions of the same helmets are about $50 cheaper.

If you want a full face, you are in the low to mid $200s.

open face sounds like i'll have more visbility , i might as well get a descent one. i always hope and expect the best, but worst case, why not protect your head to froogle i'll go. sounds like maybe i could try on some motorcycle helmets, get my size and by a car use one. if i stay with the same brand... thanks i've also been kicking around the idea of trying to build a cheap rally car , and i'de need a helmet for that also (not sure if you could build a rally car for around or less then 3K and find an event to enter) obviosly not a high end one, but something with a roll cage, good tires and an engine that doesn't die 1st race (2nd race ok) i need to do a lot of reading on the main ssca site and elsewhere.

You'd probably be better off buying someone's used, prepped rally car.

For Solo2, a 2005 will be good until the 2020s come out. You will probably replace it before that for other reasons.

4.3.1
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately
preceding Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI
standards 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable.
