That's not a theory, it's a verifiable scientific fact!

I don't know, it's the people, not the car...

On Monday driving back from Laguna coming down from Donner Summit in many inches of snow I watched a black outback pass me along with all the SUV drivers, only to see him get loose and bounce off the inside wall/rocks and end up off the road on the right side...

While I am no Petter, I am probably better than 90%+ of the drivers out there on the mountain, and even if they have Blizzaks or some such versus my RE92s, they are still crazy as loons.

Physics is physics. Traction vs. momentum/inertia. I know at the speed I was going, 30-35 or so, I was pretty near the edge of adhesion with momentary loss thereof. The pickup trucks, SUVs and AWDs going 40-60 are just accidents waiting to happen.

I was going a speed where I would have a pretty good chance of missing one of these other idiots if I had to, but they just go blindly along until they end up in a snow bank.

Unfortunately the 4wd w/snow tires rule is part of the problem. At least chains tend to keep speeds down, or they rip your fenders off. But any idiot can go fast when they haven't even had to get out of their car to realize how slipery the road is.

OK, I'll get down off the soapbox now...
