Default WRX or RX-7

Ok here is my dilemma should i keep my WRX or sell it and get a JDM right hand drive 2nd generation, series 5, RX-7 turbo II.

I love my WRX i love the fact that every morning i know my wrx is going to start up. i love the look on peoples faces when i dust them off the line, the grip is amazing, and i love the lines of the car, those fender flares really give the car a distintive look. But.....

My my dream car is a 2g rhd RX-7, the first car i ever had was an RX-7, i work for a year at weinerschitzel to buy this car, and a week after i had it breaks it would not rev past 3000 rpms and then it just stopped working all together. I loved that car though, I learned so much working on it. Then it met its demise on a one lane dirt road, i came around a corner too fast got the rear end kicking, only to see a truck coming straight for me, i spun out into a pile of granite bolders. Anyways back to the subject

I owe 13000 on my wrx, my minimum payments are 450 a month, my insurance is 300 dollars a month. I can get a rhd RX-7 for less the 6000 shipped getting it dot approved will take some time but won't be hard, insurance for a rhd RX-7 will be 250 a month, but thats pritty good for jdm car, or so i'm told. so any suggestions, or incite?

Well I don't know how much you have paid on your WRX or how much it is worth, but from searching I see turbo II's going for 5000-10000! So a JDM turbo at 6000 seems like a good deal on the surface. You seem to have high payments, I don't know what you mean by minimum payments but 450 on a used car seems like a lot. I don't know how much you paid but if I was you I would try to buy are car outright if I could to save a ton of money on interest payments. Of course staying with the WRX and eventually paying it off will help your credit rating. If I could do it all over again I would have waited till I got a better job to buy my WRX.

How many miles are on the rx-7 you have the option to buy. It might give you grief like your previous rx-7. It sounds like you really love the rx-7.

If you have to use the car to get to work, stick with the WRX. If it's a toy and a second, go for the RX7. Why the hell do you want a RHD car?

Don't forget those Turbo II's are notorious for blowing apex seals... which, unless you have the ability to do a motor rebuild yourself, basically means tossing the motor and getting a new one since the repair labor is so high. That RX-7 may end up costing you a lot more than the WRX.

If you really want a 7, and it's going to be a daily driver, stay away from the turbos... yes they rule, but they don't make great daily drivers. Get a non-turbo 2nd gen.

don't bother getting the JDM T2. it will cost way too much. 6k buy 2k for shipping then 6 months for DOT and federalization...and the cost for that is around 10k-15k depending on the year for that...one of the major things they do is give it a us vin# and enter it into the system..Time and money better spent on getting an already modded FC..actually I know of several for sale right now...one of them has one hell of a set up with RE-AMEMIYA body parts. and a 13b-re cosmo conversion..(same one I'm doing.)
Now Scott don't make me school you one the Rotary engine tonight and how they ARE reliable if treated right...

With the strict emissions law in japan every car i required to have rebuild every 30,000 miles. So the engine would be in alot better condition than one i would buy in the US. My 88 was na and i really want the extra power. If i did end up buying one it would not be my daily driver. I'd buy a late 80's, early 90's subaru gl-10 turbo.

And thats 6,000 shipped, thats 4000 for the car and 2000 for shipping. i've found ones for under four like this one.

http://members.at.infoseek.co.jp/tadauto/index-1.html

its an 89 turbo II going for 250,000 yen, which is equal to 1,925 US, and the whole reliability issue, the only reason rotaries and 4g63's get such bad rap is because their abused. A guy i know bought his 86 turbo II brand new in 1986 and it now has 315,000 thousand miles on the original motor.

actually that emissoins law stuff about japan is b.s. I lived there for 3years. they do have a heavy tax on things like sports cars and they have a thing called JCI (japanese compulsory isnurance) that is every 2-3 years depending on what veh. it is and if its a heavy duty truck etc etc...that is expensive and very strict. if you fail even one thing test is over..they even check head light level, and lug nuts..if your loose a little from spec. you fail if you light is just a little lower than the line you fail..come back another day. so if the car smokes just a little your done. about the only thing I really saw was you needed to have all the belts and hoses, and external engine bay lines changed at 100,000 km. Japanese don't actually "smog" a car. if you pass JCI insp. you can drive it. Most of the japanese tuner cars (signal auto's HR9 skyline) is registered and can be street driven even with a gutted int. and full cage. But even those speed freaks think a 800hp+ car is too much...
Now you still have to contend with the DOT and that aint fun over 10k to get it legal here...not worth it just get one from someone else that has put lots of effort into it...try the fore sale section at http://www.nopistons.com they have good FC's at good deals...there is a guy selling a really good one now but I can't get it. http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...gallery&id=258
hope that pic address works ok but I think this is the one he is selling

I've given it some thought and have decided to buy an US FC. After talking to a friend of mine that had an eg6 imported and of course everyones info from the board, it would be alot easier and a lot less difficult to just buy an FC already in the states, and that yellow FC is sick. Thanks for the advise.

Thanks, but no thanks i think i'm going to try and find a non running series 5, Turbo II with a good body and tranny and just buy a new motor for it. that way i know i have a good foundation on which to build. I'd like to do a couple of performance mods, i'd like it to be a high to mid 14 sec. car on the quarter mile, but would really like to concentrate on the suspension and build a car that i can take out to the track every once in a while, and still keep its relibility, and daily drivability on the street.

Hey fucker, listen to me. The reliabilty is in how well the car has been taken care of and how well you take care of it. Treat it well, and it will be nice to you. As much as we reem oneanother about our cars, I want to see you make the right decision here. I know you will be happy with either car, but which one is more reasonable right now? The WRX. O yeah, hey Bobby, plan on getting a severe beating when you come over to help me put the old turbo on the talon. I owe you big time
