Probably one of the wheel speed sensor wires got cut/unplugged. Also possible one failed, or is just messed up. I don't know it the Subarus are optical or magnetic. The former can get dirty, the later can get build up.

Did the scan tell you which corner it is? If it doesn't say which corner, I guess it could be an actual speed sensor on the tranny or diff, but I wouldn't think so.

What was the actual code? Have you done any brake or suspension mods lately?

The "speed sensor" is in the transmission. I know, since Subaru broke mine when they replaced my clutch, and it's popped open a few times (which puts the car into limp mode and the speedo reads 0). It's on the top/passenger side of the tranny just aft of the exhaust mount for the downpipe.

My guess is that it's probably a $100 part or so, and the install probably isn't much more then unscrewing the old one screwing in the new one.

scott had it right. I had to replace mine when my car was turbo. just make sure that you don't drop the small metal fork out of the sensor..(you will see when you take the thing out...I don't remember what it cost but it was a hight price as I remember....check the thing first to see if it came unpluged or loose.
