I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me.
Default Vehical Eligibility?

Does anyone know if trucks are allowed to race in SCCA? Let me make this more specific, does anyone know if these trucks will be able to race this weekend?

'99 Ford Ranger Lowered 3"
'93 Ford f-250 Lowered 3"

If so anyone know what class they'll be running?

Little help?

There are very few trucks that are allowed to run in SCCA... and they're all smaller trucks designed for on-road performance. Like the Lightning, Syclone, Typhoon, etc.

Getting a class for those trucks may not be possible.

Actually there is a catch all for trucks in FS. I just found that, now I need a safety steward and the head tech mechanic to inspect the vehicals making sure that they are safe to race.

Catch-all FS V8 sedans, pick-ups, and sedan-derived convertibles NOC
Catch-all HS all RWD pickup trucks NOC

Thats from http://moutons.org/sccasolo/Lists/2005/stockm.html

True, but for a vehicle that would normally not be classifiable because of its high center of gravity, you're going to have to get it signed off by tech, as you mentioned.

Note the 3" drop in suspension heighth in both trucks.... Low center of gravity. Shouldn't be too tough to get signed off on. You think?

I'd say it depends on the tech at that point.

Take a measurement from the ground to the bottom of a rocker panel and to the crank pulley centerline on the trucks, and compare those measurements to some typical cars. That should give you some idea of what the difference is, and some numbers to back up your argument.

This is not a good weekend to be brininging something unusual out. Tech is as likely to send you packing since it is a divisional. Alos, you must be an SCCA member to compete this weekend if I recall correctly.

ya, that's ok, they're selling the memberships at the races. What's the worst that could happen?! Tell them they can't race...... Oh well nobody died. It'll be well worth a try. Can't wait.

So here is the verdict from Dave Deborde and Pat Housel.
The F-250: Too heavy, too scary at speed on the course. No go.
Ranger: Got the go ahead. Thumbs up. will be racing on Saturday, most likely as a novice.

If this person is a n00b, this weekend may not be the best to learn on, things are gonna be fast paced, as well as in order to run, you have to become a member (regional event). But if he/she is okay with it, more power to them.

not really! On any other Auto-X weekend we would have 5 -6 runs and a chance at fun runs in the after noon!!!!!1

the weekend in question is only going to get 3 runs and will have more cars then normal..........

I would love to see more people out there but at the same time I would hate to scare a first timer off because it falls short of most other events in the year.

I honestly would think this weekend would be a good chance to watch and see how things are done and save the cash for a weekend that you will get more runs, ride-a-longs, & fun runs?????

I think bru's point is that it's *not* "as good a time as any". A Divisional event is much more stressful and difficult, especially for a new driver. Plus there will only be 3 runs at this event instead of the normal 5 or 6.

The best time for a new driver to come out is at the school event, followed by a regional Stead event, followed by a regional away event, then a Divisional, and finally a National Tour event. If you go to a Tour event for your 1st event, you're a maniac!

So, I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from coming out, but warn them that it will be a hectic weekend, and they won't get as much assistance as they would at just about any other weekend. I'd hate to have someone come out to the Divisional and decide that AutoX in general sucks and never come back, simply because the competition is more intense and people don't have time to help!

Edit: Mike man, you just beat me to it! And Mike raises a good point... there won't be any ride-alongs during competition at a Divisional.
