We have several STis in the group, some stock, some heavily modified with bigger turbos, etc. So far I don't know of any who have had engine problems.

I think that it depends on how much you abuse the vehicle. I think that as long as you keep of regular maintenance they will run for a long time. Just remember that it is a turbo vehicle its not really designed to last forever. I definately recommend one . I love mine!

That said we have the sweet hookup on Subaru's in Roseville. His name is Eric Rasmussen and he is one of the internet sales guys at Autowest , the number is (877) 766-7511. Tell him I sent you. He's done alot of the sales on our board and i-club too.

I paid 32,000 in may 2004 for a Used 04 STi. I believe that you can get them for less now. My insurance in Nevada was 828 every 6 mos. That was 24 years old with 2 tickets.

WRX and WRX STi only come with turbos that's the deal with the option. You should go to the Subaru website and check it out. I think that you can get the STi for around 30K now, but you'll have to find out for yourself.

As for the maintence, it's standard, oil changes, tune-ups. Same as required to keep any car running good.

I've learned that everyones insurance rates vary greatly even for the same car. In California (Midtown in Sac) I'm paying $1069/ 6 mos. no tickets or accidents. I'm going through esurance. They are pretty cheap, but I haven't had a chance to see how they do with a claim.

btw, dont pay over 24k for a used one, and 30-31k for a new one. if the stealership says that they can't give it to you for less.. tell them to shove it up their a**

and good luck with the insurance. haha when i was 18, got my evo, paid like 1600 - 1800 every 6 months.. stupid insurance.. and one werd of advice. do NOT crash the car. that = insurance go up. drive safely.. that's all i can say.

For what its worth. Four months ago, I passed on an '04 or '05 STI the dealer was asking 25,000$. Opted for an "03 WRX they had instead for $17,500. Turns out the WRX had been on the lot for two months and they marked it down to $17,500 down from $22,000 (Yikes) to move it off the lot.

Try checking out kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book). They can give you high/low etc etc.... The site also has a link to where you can search locally for specific model cars your looking for. When I was looking for my WRX, kbb's search engine actually listed 2 in the RGJ classifieds and 7-10 cars at local dealerships. I was actually impressed with how extensive thier search was. Certainly worth taking a look at.

BTW...anyone from here buy a silver STI from Reno Toyota about 4 months ago?

I'm 24, no tickets, and have 21st Century insurance, when I called for a quote on a "used" '05 STI it came out to be around $1300/6 months ($400/6 months more than I'm currently paying). So at the moment it would be too much for me to jump from a standard WRX to STI.

Dang that is a steal for the STI! I picked up my '04 WRX for about $21,000 (before tax and licensing).

Well I am biased, but if you're new to Subarus and stuff maybe you don't know about the Legacy GT's. They have the same STI motor with a little smaller turbo and put out 250/250 stock. Not as quick as an STI and you don't get the brembos, but the interior is awesome, you can get one for 25000 or less (base model manual) and with a few mods you can have the speed of an STI...

At least when you go to the dealership give one a test drive, who knows, you may be surprised, I was!

So the Legacy GTs are faster/have more power than the standard WRX's? I didn't realize that.

Have more power? Yes.

Faster? Thats debatable. The new LGTs have 23 extra rated HP plus about 300lbs.

The GT does have the 2.5L engine, though, and the turbo spools very quick, so it'd probably beat a stock WRX in a straight line. But not by much.

I guess they're probably pretty close but the wrx's can probably out turn the lgt's stock to stock...

with a few mods (exhuast plus tune) I think an LGT can probably hang with STI's... but I still have to find out for sure

oh ya...the 6-speed - I didn't mention that because I'm bitter. That's the one thing the Legacy's really really should have gotten and I wish I had one. The brakes are one thing because they aren't brembos, but they are definitely still nice breaks...
