Default Intercooler sprayer

Does anyone know if you can can automatically control the sprayer so that it sprays only at WOT? I never really played with the STI sprayer - does it only operate when you push the button or does it have any sort of automatic spray setting?

Reason for the question is I noticed my engine coolant temp rose to the 2/3 mark at the track on both of the straights - probably due to the FMIC in front of the radiator.

I've got a spray computer. It monitors ambient temp and I/C temp, as well as the duty cycle of the fuel injectors. When the injector duty is high, and the temp difference is great, it sprays the water.

The unit I got is from Australia, and I bought it used, so I don't know where you can get one from new.

Here's the article describing the system: http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_0527/article.html

the only problem I see is running out of water......

at the track your spray would occur every time you hit the gas. You might want to bring lots of water to keep filling the tank

I think the JDM version has an auto mode?

No, not really. The computer is smart enough to not do it every time you hit the gas. It'll only spray if the temperature differences are hot enough AND you go to near full throttle.

As for running out of water, thats why you need the spec-c water tank in your trunk

If you're really slick w/ your wiring, you could connect the low-water indicator to the computer so it won't try to spray if the water level is low.

What about the car behind you driving through any drippage? That could be a problem...

That gives me an idea: My roof top box!, I'll just convert that to hold say 150 gallons of water, run a tube from the front over the hood.....................

I spoke to Nate about this. He suggested a larger capacity radiator. His thoughts on the front mount sprayer is that when I need it, I am at WOT moving a little too fast for the water to atomize for a duration long enough to have a real affect on the air temp. My other thought was to duct some air between the intercooler and the radiator...............any thoughts?

I have read people on nasioc saying that they needed a bigger radiator when they went to a FMIC, so maybe that is the way to go. Did the temps rise at any of the other track days?

It only rose at this last track day. The other days were cooler and my radiator wasn't stuffed full of dirt!

yah I would say Bigger radiator then, will provide more cooling and hold more fuilds to keep things cool. Do you have a radiator shrowd yet? (the little thing that covers the top so the air must travel throu the radiator instead of escaping out the top)
