Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once
Thumbs down Someone Stole my car!!!!!

Well, since I can't cut myself in half and drive both of my vehicles home, I had left my Mustang at my work.

First thing this morning (7:30am) I get to work and notice that my car is no longer in the parking lot. So, I am like "oh crap!!!" I then notice there is some glass in the parking lot where it WAS parked. "OHHH FUCKKK!!!!" Notice how in the photo there is a grease spot where the damn power stearing and front seal leaked. The glass on the ground appears to be from the rear quarter windows that were tinted a lite purple color.

GRRR!!!! What a way to start the week off. I spent an hour down at the police station filing a report. Then I call the insurance, 15-20 minutes on the phone with them. Now I am in a supper pissed off mood and all I want is a stiff drink!

I hope they find it. Progressive is already hinting about settling with me. But they have to wait like 30 days to give the Reno PD time to at least locate it.

Now I have to go down and fill out a bunch of paperwork for the insurance company. It seams to me that they want more information then the police did. The investigator asked me if I owed money on it, of course I don't. They also have to run my credit score, yippy. Due to my divorce, I owe money to damn near everyone under the sun.

My guess would be, some punk ass kids stole thinking it would be a great joy ride. Little did they know, the damn thing is prown to overheating. So, they may have not gotten very far with it, especially if they were driving it hard.

Man, I hope this doesn't drive my insurance rate up. Anyone?

What does your credit score have to do with an insurance claim?

I would guess to look for possible red flags indicating insurance fraud.

Damn, it's got perfectly good RE-01r's on it too.

Yeah, but the investigator already stated to me that it doesn't sound like I will profit from it being stolen. I'd be happy if they give me the money back for it that I paid for it in the first place.

the Ins company is probably wondering about your credit and weather or not you owe money because maybe they would use that as motive for the car getting "stolen". There are a lot of people that get someone to jack their car because of one reason or another so obviously the insurance company is going to drill you. I wouldn't worry about it too much. My sisters old bf got his truck stolen [which I thought was totally awesome] but the insurance paid him in 2 weeks. The cops found the truck several months later in some casino parking lot.

Then what happened? Did he get the truck back, or did the insurance keep it?

I guess the only good thing is, the car had Full coverage on it. I never down graded it from when I had the STi.

Any "damage" done by those who stole it should be covered.

I don't know what happened to the truck. He didn't get it back because he was already paid and had another vehicle by then.

Oh well, I was planning on selling it anyway. I just needed to get it home so I could clean it up and put it in Craigslist.

Having dealt with both multiple times... insurance claims are tidier than trying to sell an older car. Usually more profitable too. So this is probably a blessing in disguise man. Good job keeping good coverage on it.This won't affect your rates ebcause it's a comprehensive claim.

Cool, I have been stressing out about that all morning. I wouldn't put it past an insurance company to raise your rates because a China-man passed gas in Tiawon.

Unless your policy says otherwise, you get replacement value which is determined by actual retail replacement cost in your market, not some number they pull out of their back side.

I dealt with this and ended up writing a letter to the state insurance board claiming bad faith, and as soon as I did, they would do whatever I wanted. The best thing is to be armed with local data. Cars.com is a good source of retail listings, autotrader isn't as good due to the largely private party nature...

let me know if you need some more info.

It's either good or bad that the only thing you are worrying about on your stolen car is the tires.

I hope it turns up somewhere and in not too bad of shape.

I am not concerned about the tires. I hope it just comes back no worse for the wear. The insurance adjuster told me when I picked up the paperwork that if they don't hear anything in the next two weeks they will total it out.

Wait, you parked your older Mustang in a business lot overnight, dripping fluid on the tarmac? Was if more than one night? Have you just checked to see if the property manager there just had it towed?

I checked. The property manager is my boss, the company owns the building and the parking lot. They also had me contact the contruction company next door. I always park it in the same spot, even when I was driving it everyday. Its only been there for a week. Everyone here knew it was my car. You should have heard the crap I got for selling the STi and then showing up with the Mustang.

The consturction company that is doing the building next door typically has a security firm keep an eye on things. But they told me that they haven't set up security patrols yet. I checked with everyone possible before I went down and filed a Grand Theft Auto Report.

Well, it sounds like someone saw the car just sitting there night after night and decided to yoink it. Probably a bad idea to leave it unmoved for so long, but still doesn't make getting it stolen any less the thief's fault.
