Default Doesn't "special pricing" usually mean that things cost less?

In the next week or so I was planning to sell a truck on Ebay and coincidently I just got an email from Ebay today about a "special deal". Now maybe I am reading this wrong but, it looks as though the special price is going to cost me $55 more to sell my truck than the regular price would have. I can see how the special price would save you money if you assumed that your car was not going to sell. Then I ask you; why would I want to list my car on Ebay with the assumption that its not going to sell?

"Insertion" Fees sound painful.

Who said "special" means good...

"Jerry's Kids" are "special".

Special Olympics.

Special circumstances are often not good.

Special elections are usually not good.

The way I see if, for most people Ebay is either a last resort, or they're listing a shitload of cars for a business. They're making it cheaper to list with the expectation that if you're going to sell and actually complete a deal a little more money on the backend is a good risk/reward relationship.

Makes sense to me. If something sells, I'd rather lose a few more bucks on the backend than pay a steep fee every time I wanted to try and failed.
