Stupid Audi. Did I mention the impossible to get to when it is in the car nut below the rewelded cat? (Thanks again Scott by the way.)
Well, with a 3/8 17mm socket, universal joint, and very long wobble extension, you can turn it 2 click at a time ![]() A normal deep socket of course won't fit. The alternative is a box wrench with a 90 degree bend 2-3" from the head that I could make work from the top. Worst case, I guess I will go down to HF and get a deep I can cut off. WTF cuts forged and I think hardened socket steel? F'ing Audi...

If a 90deg open ended wrench works, what about a 17mm crowsfoot?

It might. I don't recall what crows feet I have. My concern as with all open ends is rounding instead of tightening which would be not fun.

Nope, not enough clearance. A box barely fits but won't move. A ratchet with maybe a 20mm head might and might turn a click, but all mine are larger than that.

Sockets are hard to cut, but not bad to grind. I now have a custom made 1.5" long 17mm 3/8 drive socket. The A4 is now back together and running great!
