i think the 07 TR WRX requires a fluid with friction modifiers in the rear diff, but i'm probably wrong.. j.stewart (one of my navigators) looked it up a while ago ...

I'm switching back to Redline Lightweight Shockproof. The Motul Gear 300 was alright when new, but it's already getting too slippery. Shifts have been slightly more difficult/slower lately. Feels like it's time.

I'll also grab a qt of Mobil-1 75W90 full synth from Kragen for the rear diff.

Just FYI, Tom and I looked at my 95 rally transmission after 30,000 miles and 10 rallies, it looked just like it did before all the "abuse" , all the gears and synchros look to be in great shape.

It was primarily driven hard on low grip surfaces, which i think is easier on the drive-line (though i did a few autoxes on it) , and with a low hp motor , again that should be easier.
that was all with Amsoil 75-90 gear oil (heavy duty or serve) stuff they stock at the lil sunshine automotive (though not at very good prices) Not exactly sure what the fluid change interval should be, given that its a rally car, but i never changed my fluid 2 years , 10 rallies, 30k miles, a dozen rally crosses, never changed the fluid and it felt just as good on the last drive, as it did on the first drive.

That's some good anecdotal input! I think it'd be about $90 for 4 qts of that while the total with tax for Shockproof LW is $60.12 at Summit. That and having read mixed reviews on the Amsoil have me leaning toward the Redline. Some say that the Amsoil doesn't last all that long before it feels like it needs to be replaced. Interestingly, that was my experience with the Motul too.

That's a pretty good deal. I want to change my fluid Thursday night or earlier though. I'll hit you up next time when I'm not in such a big hurry.

Cody, Kragen might not have the Mobil1 75w90 anymore, when I left they seemed to be switching over to Castrol gear oils.

They didn't have it on the shelf, and I almost bought Castrol Syntec 75w90 full synth instead, but when I asked the counter guy, he said, "oh yah, there's 3 in back," and grabbed me one. I'm sure either one would work equally well. I've always heard any oily substance would be fine for the rear diff. The Mobil-1 is just cheap and synthetic so meh.

ya you have a viscous rear diff (to my knowledge) its a sealed unit and its inner workings do not interact with your gear oil.
