Default Housing Thoughts.

The lease on my current apartment is up Sept. 30th, and how I see it I have a couple of options each with it's own conditions.

Option A: Renew my current lease. This way I won't have to move anything, and I'll get my first month rent free. However the rent isn't cheap, $700, plus another $100 in utilities during the winter. The big problem is my income, the require your income to be 3x the amount of the rent which mine falls short of. So, if they want to verify my income that could be a problem, although I'm sure I could "modify" an old pay stub to meet the requirement.

Option B: Look for a new place. This is going to be more difficult, but I could find something more in my price range. However anything in my price range is going to be small, and in a shitty neighborhood. A lot of you are going to say get a roommate, or move in with some friends. This would save me a ton of money, but I hate people, and I have a distaste for wearing pants. It would be great if I could find something privately owned, like a small condo, or basement apartment. It would save me the trouble of dealing with all of the afore mentioned bullshit.

Thoughts?

I would go with option A. Was your income 3x the rent when you first signed the lease? I assume if your rent payment history is good with them, they really wouldn't have a problem with you signing another lease.

Nope, my income is the same, I forged documents to get my first lease. I pay my rent on time, and no one has complained about my sexy parties yet.

Well in that case... when are these parties?

These may not be the sexy parties you are thinking of.

Are you sure they're going to re-verify your pay stubs just to renew the lease? I gotta figure if you're already a pay-on-time tenant, no one at the office there is going to want to bother doing extra paperwork and bullshit just to renew you. You of all people should know, human nature is to be lazy!

I say drop by the office to renew and just sign a new copy of the existing lease with new dates on it. It shouldn't be the full application to rent process.

$700 seems cheap to me. Try paying a mortgage sometime!
