What are you reading, or what do you recommend?

I just ordered Peter Kropotkin's The Conquest Of Bread, which apparently is so unpopular it's print to order. While I'm waiting for someone to print that book, I picked up Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises.

Here are a couple of my recommendations:

Obedience to Authority by Stanley Milgram. It's a fascinating read that describes Milgram's experiments in social psychology. It's such an interesting study, with stunning results.

Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Fleming. This is the newest James Bond novel, and I must say I was impressed with Faulks. It depicts an aging Bond which was something different.

If you have any interest in Sci-Fi, I can help. Mostly the classics. Asimov, Heinlein, Niven, Bradbury, Clarke, etc...

Short stories are what I have been mostly reading recently trying to find some newer authors that I like.

Don't really read that much unless there is a caption with a photo but anything by Hunter S. Thompson. and lately at my wife's request I am reading all the "Harry Potter" books. She love children's Lit.

Have you read any of the Futurama comics? Those are some awesome short stories.

Must-read is Winston Churchill's 6-book series on the Second World War. At least book one, The Gathering Storm if nothing else.

I am finishing up Cooper's Leatherstocking tales right now. Also good because they were written so close to the timeframe depicted in the stories.

Neither of these are fast reads.

I've been on a "beat" streak lately.

I started reading Jack Kerouac's "The Subterraneans" yesterday and I've been plugging away at Allen Ginsberg's poetry collection for a few weeks too.

"Dharma Bums" was my favorite, always thought it was better than "On The Road".
I don't find much time to read anything but tech books and the internet anymore but if I had the time, Nothing beats Bukowski.

Recently I read a damn good book about a driver. The book is written in the perspective of his dog in the passenger seat. It's called "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein.

I really enjoyed Dharma Bums too, but there is no way it beats On The Road!

You're right though, you can't go wrong with Bukowski.

I read this one a while back and I agree, it's a good read.

I just read " Heart of Darkness" one of america's " top 100 books" Written by Joseph Conrad. While I was expecting something more intense, it was well written, but I believe too short. If you are looking to brush up on some words rarely ever used anymore, this is your book.

Oh and if you ever get your hands on a copy of the " Underground Education" a bit slow but good, hilarious, read.

Um, isn't HoD required reading in High School? I know that's when I read it.
