What are you reading, or what do you recommend?

I just ordered Peter Kropotkin's The Conquest Of Bread, which apparently is so unpopular it's print to order. While I'm waiting for someone to print that book, I picked up Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. Here are a couple of my recommendations: Obedience to Authority by Stanley Milgram. It's a fascinating read that describes Milgram's experiments in social psychology. It's such an interesting study, with stunning results. Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks writing as Ian Fleming. This is the newest James Bond novel, and I must say I was impressed with Faulks. It depicts an aging Bond which was something different.

If you have any interest in Sci-Fi, I can help. Mostly the classics. Asimov, Heinlein, Niven, Bradbury, Clarke, etc...

Short stories are what I have been mostly reading recently trying to find some newer authors that I like.

Must-read is Winston Churchill's 6-book series on the Second World War. At least book one, The Gathering Storm if nothing else.

I am finishing up Cooper's Leatherstocking tales right now. Also good because they were written so close to the timeframe depicted in the stories. Neither of these are fast reads.

I've been on a "beat" streak lately.

I started reading Jack Kerouac's "The Subterraneans" yesterday and I've been plugging away at Allen Ginsberg's poetry collection for a few weeks too. |

Recently I read a damn good book about a driver. The book is written in the perspective of his dog in the passenger seat. It's called "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein.

You're right though, you can't go wrong with Bukowski. I read this one a while back and I agree, it's a good read. |

I just read " Heart of Darkness" one of america's " top 100 books" Written by Joseph Conrad. While I was expecting something more intense, it was well written, but I believe too short. If you are looking to brush up on some words rarely ever used anymore, this is your book.
